Mango fest to commence later this month in southern Vietnam
The administration in Dong Thap Province, southern Vietnam will organize the 2023 Mango Festival from April 28 to May 1, with 18 activities scheduled before, during, and after the fest.
Provincial authorities on Wednesday held a press conference to announce the event, whose highlight will be a display of digital transformation applications which help remove many of the obstacles faced by local farmers.
Eighteen activities are slated to take place before, during, and after the festival.
These include a story-writing contest, a children’s drawing competition, a photography contest, an exhibition showcasing mango products and local specialties from Dong Thap, and familiarization trips to mango farming areas.
The festival will also include two seminars featuring discussions on measures to enhance the value, and promote the sustainable growth, of the province’s mango farming and tourism sectors.
Some reporters at the press briefing fielded questions on whether the festivals in Dong Thap have lived up to authorities’ expectations or if they just overwhelm local residents.

In response, Nguyen Phuoc Thien, vice-chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, asserted that the mango festival is among the measures to promote post-pandemic trade and increase the consumption of Dong Thap mangoes.
The festival is scheduled to coincide with the mango harvest season when low prices help promote their sales, the official said.
“We organize familiarization trips to take business representatives, investors, and visitors to mango farming regions and mango processing plants that have secured approval to export their products,” he added.
“In addition, digital transformation applications and a virtual reality exhibition will help visitors explore virtual mango farms at the festival.”
Mango is among the six agricultural staples produced in Dong Thap, with its total farming area exceeding 14,000 hectares.
About 250 farming regions in the province got licenses to ship the fruit to China.
