US magazine praises Ha Long Bay as ‘a tourism mecca in Asia’

Google Doodle celebrates Vietnam’s first female newspaper editor

The doodle, a temporary alteration of the logo on Google’s homepages, was rolled out only in Vietnam, incorporating apricot blossoms and an apricot color palette in honor of one of Anh’s most well-known poems centered around apricot blossoms. It was illustrated by Hanoi-based guest artist Camelia Pham, according to the search engine’s archives.  Anh was born on March 8, 1864 in the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre. Her father is Nguyen Dinh Chieu, a patriotic teacher, physician, and poet of southern Vietnam in the second half of the 19th century, who was recognized as a UNESCO World Cultural Celebrity in November 2021. Chieu’s ‘Luc Van Tien,’ written in the 1850s, is one of the two most celebrated Vietnamese epic poems, along with Nguyen Du’s ‘Truyen Kieu’ in the early 19th century. Aussies in Ho Chi Minh City, are you ready for the AFL and NRL on weekend?

Australian culture is very much about sport and I love being able to share my games, my culture with my Vietnamese friends. The pinnacle of the Australian sporting calendar arrives in the last weekend in September and first weekend in October. Over the next two weekends the grand finals of both the AFL and NRL will be shown live in bars across Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam, and the games promise to be memorable in many ways. AFL (Australian Football Leagues or Aussie Rules) is a game that began in Australia in 1896 and is followed by millions of people in Australia and around the world. From 18 teams at the start of the season, we are now down to the top two sides. This Saturday will see the grand final of the AFL with Sydney playing Geelong. AFL actually has a rather big following in Vietnam with many foreigners and locals following the games on TV and at local bars, plus there is now a local competition for both men and women. Sister Sister 2 to compete at 2023 Osaka Asian Film Festival

According to the Cinema Department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the movie first to be screened in Asia will appear in the Spotlight category, which aims to honour new films creating a positive impression in Asia’s cinematography industry. The movie will compete in the ABC TV Award for the best new movie, the Yakushi Pearl Award for the best actors and actresses, and the Audience Award for the best movie as voted on by audiences. Sister Sister 2 tells a story of the battle for the title of “beauty queen of Saigon” between Ba Tra and Tu Nhi, starring actress Minh Hang and model Ngoc Trinh as the main characters of the film. The movie re-enacts old images of Ho Chi Minh City from nearly 100 years ago. It was released in cinemas across the country during the recent Lunar New Year holiday.
