Ho Chi Minh City to Host Vietnam-ASEAN Culture and Food Festival

The Institute for Research Development and Conservation of Southeast Asian Art and Culture (IRSAC) is organizing an event to commemorate the 56th founding anniversary of ASEAN . This event serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving and celebrating the culture and heritage of Southeast Asia. With this, IRSAC seeks to create awareness about the shared history and culture of the region, and to promote solidarity and unity among its member countries. According to Le Van Tiep, director of IRSAC, the festival seeks to showcase the unique culture and cuisine of the ASEAN community to both local and international visitors, thus enhancing understanding, friendship, and cooperation between the countries in the region. The festival will feature an array of 200 stalls showcasing traditional dishes from ASEAN countries, such as Vietnam’s phở, Singapore’s chili crab, and Myanmar’s fermented tea leaf salad. USAID Provides Disaster Response Equipment for Nghe An Province

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) recently provided the commune sisaster response equipments with a total value of VND 254 million (abour US $10.812) for Nghe An Province. The disaster response equipments were handed over to 2 disaster response teams of Hung Trung and Chau Nhan communes in Hung Nguyen district (Photo: hungnguyen.nghean.gov.vn) In particular, with the USAID sponsorship, the Red Cross Society of Nghe An province and the Red Cross Society of Hung Nguyen district handed over equipment to 2 disaster response teams of Hung Trung and Chau Nhan communes in Hung Nguyen district. Accordingly, each commune is provided with disaster response equipment like motorboat, radio, lifebuoys and flashlights. There are also, raincoats, life jackets and boots. Vietnam Wins Most Medals in 2023 Southeast Asian Games

This is the first time Vietnam has achieved a first-place finish at a SEA Games edition that was not held on its home ground in the 64-year history of the event. On Tuesday, the nation added 12 more gold medals to its tally from wrestling, kickboxing, weightlifting, judo, boat racing, fencing, and dance sport, bringing its total to 136 gold, 105 silver, and 114 bronze medals. Thailand came a close second with 108 gold, 96 silver, and 108 bronze medals, and Indonesia followed closely with 86 gold, 81 silver, and 109 bronze medals. Host Cambodia ranked fourth at the recent event, earning a total of 281 medals – 81 gold, 74 silver, and 126 bronze. The Cambodia SEA Games Organizing Committee is gearing up to host the closing ceremony of the biennial multi-sports extravaganza at the Morodok Techo National Stadium in Phnom Penh on Wednesday evening. Vietnamese film receives 5-minute standing ovation at Cannes

‘Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell,’ which vies for the Camera d’Or Award against 17 other competitors in the Directors’ Fortnight section, was premiered at 4:45 pm in France. Directed by Pham Thien An, the movie tells the story of a journey taken by a young man named Thien, who is tasked with delivering his sister-in-law’s body to their countryside hometown following a tragic motorcycle accident. Amid the mystical landscapes of rural Vietnam, Thien begins a search for his older brother, who vanished years ago.  As the debut screening of the movie ended after three hours on Wednesday, audiences rose and stood applauding for five minutes. According to AP News , a five-minute standing ovation would count as a dream response in most places in the world although it is supposedly tepid in Cannes. US aids Vietnam in preserving Nguyen Dynasty woodblocks

Commencing in July 2020, the project was aimed at conserving 500 deteriorated woodblock plates at the National Archives Center IV.  The initiative, which received more than US$88,000 in funding from the United States Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), has now been completed. Following the approval of the AFCP grant in July 2020, a technical team conducted a thorough study and assessment of the level of damage sustained by the degraded woodblocks.  Newly-treated Nguyen Dynasty woodblock plates are conserved at the National Archives Center IV in Lam Dong Province, Vietnam, May 25, 2023.
